What lurks behind this cabinet above the microwave in our kitchen?   The cabinet above the drink station serves as storage for vitamins and other pills, first aid supplies, and it’s also where we keep our hot beverages (tea, hot cocoa, coffee).   Until recently, this cabinet was a mess.  Before the kitchen remodel last year, all of these items were in the cabinets over the stove. Since that cabinet went away the items had to be relocated.

As you can see, even though I had some bins to help with organization, things were just shoved in there and it was messy every time you had to use anything that wasn’t near the front.   While I was off for a few days at the end of the year, I decided to clean it out.   I threw away everything expired or not used and I put this shelf insert from Ikea (that I already had, still in the original packaging) to use.   These inserts are super handy for creating more space.  I think I should pick up another one.  I also put a small thrift store basket behind the stuff we use daily to store all of small prescription medicine bottles.

Here it is better organized and less of a mess now.   Have you begun the new year with any organizing or purging?   I definitely did this last year too (with our closets and the basement) and it feels good to get things in order.  Even better, I’ve managed to keep the areas tackled back then organized all year.

I’m a bit OCD when it comes to organization so loved your post today. On another note I noticed your apple cider vinegar I have the same brand, and was told to delete it (1 Tbsp.) to water I can’t seem to get past the taste. Any suggestions? I know not the comment you were expecting. On the other hand it could make for an interesting post.

Hi Jan, No worries, good question! I put my tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in a cup of hot of tea. I drink several cups of tea a day so it works out fine for me. You can also add it to any juice so if you have OJ in the morning maybe try adding it to that?

this is great! i just organized my closet too, everything is group by type of clothing and/or by color which has been very helpful. your post from last year reminds me that i need to purchase more hangers so i can eliminate anything left on a wire hanger.

we are definitely purging and getting straightened out! thanks for today’s post! i need to do this for not only my medicine cabinet but also underneath my bathroom sink.

I had not idea those shelves would add so much space in the cabinet. I’m borrowing this one too…lol. I love the bin idea too that way I can separate my vitamins from everyone else. Smart idea. Thanks for sharing J.

Yeah, I need more of those shelves I think. Those bins were from the $1 bin at Target! But I think thrifted baskets would work well too.

You really gained a lot of extra space with those shelves. Your cabinets look great. I bet it feels great to be better organized.

What a difference- you gained a ton of space. I need to get some of those shelves.
