Most of us are very familiar with hanging curtains high and wide above a window. That method of mounting can give the room a lift and give the illusion of a larger window. But what about using curtains elsewhere? With the same rod and hardware used to mount curtains over a window, curtains can also be used in doorways to add impact and drama and even privacy when needed.
But what about areas where you want privacy or want to delineate a space but don’t necessarily have a doorway? Hanging curtains from the ceiling could be your answer. You can DIY your own rod with PVC or other pipe, or you can use DIGNITET, Ikea’s tension wire solution for mounting on the ceiling (you can also use it on regular walls too). The comments I’ve read indicate DIGNITET is great for lightweight curtains but needs some reinforcement to prevent sagging with heavier fabric.
Then too, you can think outside of the box and use hardware intended for another purpose, like the decorative iron hooks used in this room.
What do you think? Have you hung curtains in a non-traditional way? I’d love to see!
